UC will choose a contractor this week to build the $133 million Helios Energy Research Center, a five-story, 112,800-square-foot building adjacent to the central campus in downtown, according to the CoStar group newsletter.

The Helios Energy center will house the Energy Biosciences Institute and the UC Berkeley Bioengineering Program, both of which are conducting research to find solutions to global warming.

Designs for the building will be reviewed by the UC Board of Regents in January and construction is slated to begin by summer 2010, for completion by late 2012 or early 2013.
