Bay Bridge closing down after cable snap

The Bay Bridge is being closed down after cables on the upper deck fell and hit three cars earlier this evening causing major traffic headaches to commuters heading westwards from the East Bay.

A photo of the incident was captured by larfo and posted to Twitter (above).

Kron4 has video and is reporting that the strand that came loose was from the eyebar on which emergency work was conducted over the Labor Day weekend.

I drive by the intersection of Warring and Derby several times a week and I am always struck by the flowers, balloons, and cards set up at the spot where 5-year old Zachary Cruz was killed in February.

On the agenda for the city council

Tonight’s city council meeting has both substantive and symbolic items on the agenda. The council meeting is webcast from 7pm.

There will be a first reading of an ordinance requiring employers with 10 or more employees to offer a pre-tax payroll deduction for commuter benefits. As part of the economic stimulus legislation passed in February, the potential benefit to employees increased dramatically. America’s Most Wanted in Berkeley

America’s Most Wanted, the Fox show that brings the glare of mass television to the task of tracking down fugitives from justice, will be filming on Allston Way between 9th and 10th Streets today (hat tip: John).

The program is in Berkeley to “recreate” to film an introduction about the gang murder that took place in May this year.
