Computer, computers everywhere and nary any room for tea

sacksFriday marked the last day of classes for UC Berkeley students. Next week is a reading and review period, followed by final exams.

By later afternoon, so many people (presumably students) were crowded into Sacks Cafe on College Avenue using the wi-fi that it was difficult to get a free table. Or was it the foggy and cold weather that drove people indoors?

    The other awkwardness in a sea of laptops is that cafes are so damn quiet. I met someone the other day in The Beanery and we felt self-conscious about having a conversation. The atmosphere was more library than coffee shop.

    The library, by the way, has free wi-fi, unlike many cafes.

    I bet those gosh darned kids rode the 51 bus to get there, too.

    And the library sounds more like a cafeteria. The central one at least.

    Yep, and I bet they nurse that one cup of coffee for a good hour or two.
