All-organic restaurant comes to Berkeley’s downtown

Berkeley’s newest all-organic restaurant, Gather, is scheduled to open for dinner on December 15. Located on ground floor of the David Brower building on Oxford Street, Gather is co-owned by Eric Fenster and Ari Derfel, of Back To Earth, an organic catering-outdoor adventure company.

Since 2001, Back to Earth has led yoga backpacking retreats, photography and watercolor classes, and other outings to places like Yosemite, Death Valley and Joshua Tree. Gather is their latest adventure.

More campus arrests

The four-day, relatively quiet student occupation of Wheeler Hall ended early this morning when police arrested 65 protesters.

University spokesman Dan Mogulof said the arrests were triggered when the occupiers announced plans to hold an all-night concert tonight. “Once the group refused to reconsider plans to hold an unauthorized all-night concert in an academic building, we had to take steps to ensure that finals could go forward. Endangered science at BHS

Berkeley High’s School Governance Council voted this week to approve principal Jim Slemp’s latest proposal for a new schedule at BHS. It now goes to the Berkeley Unified School District (although Slemp claims that the proposal doesn’t need BUSD approval).

The Berkeleyside Flickr pool is attracting many talented photographers. These four images of the UC Berkeley campus in 1968 are part of an archival series of photographs by Nick DeWolf, and were posted there by his son-in-law Steve Lundeen.

Nick De Wolf was co-founder of Teradyne Corporation and he is credited with designing more than 300 semi-conductor and other test systems, including the world’s first computer-operated integrated circuit tester. DeWolf, who died in 2006, … Continue reading »
