Red light for Green Motors

zenn

Green Motors, an emblem of Berkeley’s environmental credentials, appears to have gone out of business (tip: Tak and Janet). The showroom on San Pablo is empty and phone calls to the number listed on its website return a message that the number has been disconnected.

When it launched in 2007, Green Motors attracted both media and political attention. It was the Bay Area’s first (and perhaps last) all-electric vehicle dealer. Mayor Tom Bates, as well as the mayor of Albany and US House representative Barbara Lee, trooped to the novel car showroom. The unusual mix of cars included the Canadian ZENN (above), the weird Corbin Sparrow and a variety of all-electric scooters.

If anyone has more information on the fate of Green Motors, let us know.

It was a Honda showroom for the last several weeks every time I went by.

I should clarify, it had a sign from the Berkeley Honda dealership out front. Most of the cars were used and not Hondas.

Aww.. that’s too bad. I was hoping they would be able to build something. Would love to hear the owner’s take of what went wrong.

This is very disappointing. They worked on my electric plugin and did a great job. Without them I’m back to having no mechanic. Anyone know where they went? Having trouble charging and need help diagnosing the problem.
