Doggie High, a diner across the street from Berkeley High School, donated half of its recent proceeds to a fund set up by the school to raise money for Haiti.
This is particularly laudable for a local business which recently reported that it was struggling and might have to close down. Doggie High owner Vincent Trahan, head coach of BHS’s basketball team, told the Berkeley High Jacket in December that the restaurant, which opened nine years ago, was facing difficulties due to a lack of funds.
With the many photos and memorabilia on its wall, Doggie High also acts as a mini-sports museum for the high school and Trahan is considered a mentor by many of the school’s students.
Berkeley High met its $9,000 target in under 10 days and the money is going to Partners in Health.
