Scuderi named new BHS principal
Pasquale Scuderi, BUSD Director of Human Resources, has been named principal of Berkeley High School in a unanimous decision of the school board. Board president Karen Hemphill announced the appointment at tonight’s board meeting.
Scuderi’s appointment comes after earlier stumbles when the initial search for a replacement for Jim Slemp failed to produce enough candidates to interview. Before he moved to run HR at the school district, Scuderi had been a vice-principal at BHS. A parent deeply involved … Continue reading »

Last-gasp bid to save Willard Pool eyes city subsidies
An eleventh hour attempt to save Willard Pool, at least for the summer, has been hatched by the head of a Berkeley neighborhood association and will be presented at tonight’s City Council meeting by councilmember Gordon Wozniak who supports the idea.
The proposal, conceived by George Beier, the President of the Willard Neighborhood Association, would see money diverted from subsidies currently given to city employees for membership of the YMCA. The city provides $230,000 a year to subsidize … Continue reading »
West Berkeley Walgreens seeks beer/wine approval
A Berkeleyside reader writes in to spread the word about a meeting at the Shattuck Hotel tonight at 7pm between lawyers representing Walgreens and residents local to the Walgreens on San Pablo and Ashby Gilman, Telegraph and Adeline. Walgreens wants to sell beer and wine at the stores, and is required to notify residents living within 1,000 feet of their intentions.
