    Jane Perry, you are an oracle for those of us trying to decipher the minds of the under-5 set. You were such a gift to me and to my children. I feel you have many years of wisdom yet to impart, and I hope you can continue to serve the world in a new capacity. Thank you for decades of service to the future leaders of Berkeley.

    To add to my comment above, I’m writing here from Washington D.C., where today I visited the Smithsonian Museum of American History. In the lower floor is an exhibit of American invention and innovation. One area is designated to show how play — child’s play and adult play – - informs the process of invention. A video forms part of the display, with interviews from educators such as Cal’s Alison Gopnik. To illustrate the theories presented, the video includes many scenes and vignettes from Jane Perry’s classroom at Harold Jones Child Studies Center. Go, Jane!
