The Berkeley High School Development Group announced today that it will provide $19,000 funding for freshman sports and assistant coaches in the coming academic year. BHSDG’s board met over the weekend to approve the grant.

Because of the severely constrained school budget, there would have been no funding for freshman sports without the grant, according to Jennifer Burroughs, co-president of BHSDG. BHS runs a large variety of sports, with 23 different teams and four additional club sports.
