A moment in time: French horn player on Ohlone

Berkeleysider Diana Howard was walking home from the Y yesterday on Ohlone Greenway when she spotted this “plein air” French horn player running through some tunes.

“It was near Hearst and McGee,” says Howard, a designer who keeps a notebook on her at all times for just such an opportunity to sketch on the hoof. “I’ve seen him before. He was just practicing. Some grandparents and their charges hung around to listen.”

I’m honored to be the subject of this wonderful drawing. When I saw Diana sketching I wondered what it looked like, but I figured I’d never find out. I’m glad I was wrong…you made my day!

George H: We are thrilled that you got in touch — it’s so nice when connections can be made in this way in our community. We trust you will keep bringing musical pleasure to passers-by in Berkeley!

Last year, we had someone who hauled a big bass violin and played in Ohlone Park at Milvia, and this year we have an occasional trumpet player.

Hi George! I live across the street from where you usually play at the park. My wife and I love hearing you play when we arrive home from work. Thanks for playing there and please keep it up.

George – I’m very happy to see that you’re still playing. We should set up some tuba/horn duets some time :)

I live in Three Rivers, MIch. a very long way from Ohlone Greenway Parkway Berkeley. What a great pleasure to read about a French horn player running through some tunes. And in turn making so many other people so happy. I read about in on Face Book that I check every morning one of my friends had this story posted. I am always happy to read anything she writes, see she is a reporter in our local newspaper (Three Rivers Commercial-News). But to my surprise when the French hone player turned out to be here brother. I have always thought how proud her family must be to have a daughter that can such a good reporter. And so many people happy each day,but to find out they also have a son that also does the some just with music. As a parent I would say they did a ” great job”. Also to George H. and Elanora H. for all the happiness they give.
