Berkeley Bites: Michael Wild, BayWolf
The restaurant game is notoriously tough. Profit margins are thin, the dining public fickle, feeding people day in and day out is bloody hard work. The life span of a typical eatery: a few years, tops.
When a place survives — thrives even — for 35 years, attention should be paid.
Michael Wild, 70, has been at the helm of BayWolf since 1975 when the doors of his chef-owner operation opened on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.
The place has … Continue reading »
Berkeley kids get free school supplies
Asia Joyner, 9, was hanging out at the recreation center in San Pablo Park on Thursday evening when someone handed her a bulging canvas tote bag.
The fourth grader at Berkeley Arts Magnet looked inside and found some binders, a white board, crayons, colored pencils, and a few packs of binder paper. There were enough school supplies in the bag for a year, and they were Joyner’s to keep.
Joyner is one of 3,000 Berkeley students, and 150,000 students around … Continue reading »
Beer Olympics, the organic way

According to Daniel Del Grande, owner and brewer of Bison Brewing, tomorrow’s event is the fourth … Continue reading »

Fisher, 82, died as a result of complications from hip surgery, his daughter Tricia Leigh Fisher, told the Associated Press.
When his other daughter, Carrie Fisher, was performing her one-woman play at Berkeley Rep, Wishful Drinking, Eddie Fisher could often be spotted in the audience.
Fisher, who rose to prominence … Continue reading »
What do you want to ask candidates in Berkeley?
Earlier this month we ran a comprehensive chart of who is running for what in Berkeley in the November general election. As part of our election coverage, we are writing to all the candidates common questions, so voters can have some additional information for their decision.
The Personal Democracy Forum and their 10 Questions project is doing this on a national scale. We’re far more focused on our city of 100,000 people. We’d like to ask our readers … Continue reading »
