Former Defense Secretary to guest at film screening

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry will be the featured guest at a screening of the documentary The Nuclear Tipping Point at UC Berkeley on the afternoon of Thursday October 14.

The documentary, released earlier this year, centers on conversations with four men intimately involved in American diplomacy and national security over the last 40 years: Perry, former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and Sam Nunn, a former U.S. senator.

In the film, the four men outline the imminent risks of nuclear weapons and steps they feel the U.S. and other countries must take to reduce the nuclear threat.

“This is such an important problem in my mind, that it dwarfs all other considerations, and I have, myself, decided to devote the balance of my career to working to achieve that goal,” Perry said in a news release about the documentary.

Perry will field questions for an hour after the screening.

The screening takes place at the Sutardja Dai Hall, Banatao Auditorium at UC Berkeley on Thursday October 14, 4-6 pm. The event is sponsored by the campus’s Institute of Governmental Studies and Institute of International Studies and is free and open to the public. Approximately 150 free copies of The Nuclear Tipping Point will be available on a first-come basis.
