Busload of Berkeley students witness brutal shooting

A busload of Berkeley elementary students witnessed the shootings on Sacramento Street this morning that killed one man and seriously injured another, according to BUSD officials.

A school bus carrying about 40 students on their way to Cragmont Elementary School was driving on Sacramento Street near Russell around 8:43 am when two assailants fired numerous bullets into two men walking on the street.

Berkeley’s most famous restaurant, Chez Panisse, commonly referred to as one of the best restaurants in the country, if not the world, has lost its single Michelin star — unwelcome news for the Alice Waters-owned destination eatery which has held a star since the 2006 launch of the San Francisco Bay Area & Wine Country edition of the esteemed Michelin guide.

Neighbors gather on Sacramento St. to learn more about the shooting

One man was killed and another was seriously injured Tuesday in a mid-morning shooting on Sacramento Street near Russell.

Two men were walking on the street near a neighborhood hang out called Johnson’s Barbershop around 8:43 am when they were shot by two assailants, according to Sgt. Mary Kusmiss of the Berkeley Police Department.

New shooting in Berkeley

The sound of sirens all over Berkeley right now is the sound of police on their way to another shooting, according to Sgt. Mary Kusmiss. Berkeleyside does not have any more details yet, but will post as we learn more.

Update 9:15 a.m.: A Berkeleysider writes in to say that there is a wounded person because of a gunshot on Sacramento and Russell.

Update 9:44 a.m.: Two people have been shot and wounded and taken to hospital.
