Berkeley Rep acquires new pre-production base
Berkeley Repertory Theater has acquired a new campus in West Berkeley to house all of its pre-production activities, including offices, costume, prop and scene shop, and storage. The 62,000 sq. ft. building at 999 Harrison will give the Rep approximately 50% more space than it currently uses for these activities at roughly half the current cost of the five sites it currently uses in Berkeley and Oakland.

What was your favorite Halloween moment?
In the generally good-natured scrum of Halloween on Russell Street in the Elmwood, one father and his baby — temporarily and probably unknowingly a chick — stood out for costume originality and cuteness.
Other notable highlights were a jaw-dropping puppet/music show at the east end of Russell (it must have been automated — anyone know how this worked?) and the circus, complete with big top, on the corner of Russell and Kelsey. What were your favorite Halloween moments in Berkeley? Tell us in the comments below or send us your photos. Below the fold, we have some photos of the Thousand Oaks Halloween parade from Friday, thanks to Berkeleysider Christine Staples: … Continue reading »

A tree sitter Running Wolf ascended the tree late last night and built a platform about 40 feet up, to protest what he sees as the ongoing destruction of People’s Park by the university.
“It … Continue reading »

Jackets’ Spirit Week includes 53-6 win over El Cerrito
At least two of Berkeley High’s teams are riding high in the wake of Spirit Week. The girls’ golf team won their league and last week placed 10th out of 33 teams in the Division I golf qualifier. That achievement gained them entry to the Norcal Division I championships, which start today at Lone Tree Golf Course in Antioch.
While low scores were the key for the golfers, the Jackets football team is racking up eye-wateringly high scores these days.
