Berkeley pulls out the stops for Dia de Los Muertos

City supports public education with Measures H and I
As we reported last night, the results on Berkeley Unified School District’s Measures H and I proved thoroughly undramatic throughout the evening. Measure H, which approved a parcel tax to fund maintenance, required a two-thirds majority to pass. It actually surpassed 80%. Measure I, which allows for up to $210 million in bonds to be issued to fund a number of capital projects, needed a 55% majority. It received nearly 77%. Berkeley voters choose direction for downtown
Berkeley voters overwhelmingly approved a new downtown plan Tuesday, paving the way for construction of five new tall buildings and a denser, transit-oriented community.
Voters passed the controversial Measure R with 64% of the vote.

17-year old arrested for attempted murder
Berkeley police have arrested a 17-year old Berkeley High School junior in connection with allegedly shooting his 14-year old best friend on Oct. 30.
The shooting happened at 3:26 pm in the 1500 block of Alcatraz Avenue. The 17-year old and 14-year old Berkeley High freshman were at the 17-year old’s Alcatraz Avenue apartment when the shooting happened. Police have not released details about how the gun went off.
