When Laura Cunningham was growing up in Kensington, she used to walk to school and wonder what the East Bay looked like before buildings and roads covered everything.

That curiosity about the landscape continued as Cunningham got a degree in paleontology at Cal and natural science illustration degree at UC Santa Cruz. Berkeley teen released from custody

The 17-year old who was being held by police in connection with the Oct. 30 shooting of a 14-year old Berkeley High freshman has been released from custody.

The 17-year old had been detained for almost a week at Juvenile Hall in San Leandro after Berkeley police arrested him in connection with the shooting of Larry Malik Grayson. He has since been released, according to Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Matt Golde.

Hosts of KPFA’s Morning Show axed

The executive director of the Pacifica Foundation laid off the staff of KPFA’s popular The Morning Show on Monday as part of a cost cutting measure.

Arlene Englehardt laid off co-hosts Aimee Allison and Brian Edwards-Tiekert on Monday and informed them by letter that they would be paid through Dec. 8.
