What’s with the ailing gray foxes?
Berkeleysider and occasional contributor Kelly Cash writes in:
Last week, in the lowlands off Claremont there was a sick gray fox in our neighborhood, and I just saw a second one in the suburbs near Panoramic.
Do we need to know anything? Do they have distemper? Is someone poisoning them? Should we worry about having our dogs offleash in Tilden?

Outrage on College: where did the fried chicken go?
An email landed in Berkeleyside’s inbox the other day, subject line: “Outrage on College Avenue!” Reader Heidi, who lives in the Elmwood neighborhood, wrote:
Summer Kitchen Bake Shop has taken its fried chicken off the menu!
Everybody loved their fried chicken! It has been the gateway meat for many a small and so-well-raised Berkeley child. It has linked generations of foodies.

Heidi … Continue reading »
There will be a BHS Community Memorial on Thursday, February 3 after school in the BHS Library for Tim Moellering, the Berkeley High baseball coach who died on Tuesday january 18. Moellering’s family is asking that BHS students planning to attend a memorial for their former teacher attend the one at BHS, rather than the Saturday service at Willard Middle School which is intended primarily for Moellering’s family and old friends. The BHS Community Memorial will allow the BHS community to gather and share memories of the popular coach and teacher in conversations or open mic.
Protesters in Mitch Kapor case say the battle is not over
A group of north Berkeley residents who are contesting the construction of a new home by Lotus founder and philanthropist Mitch Kapor on his property at 2707 Rose Street say they may move for a new trial after a judge ruled against them in December.
“The case is not yet over,” said Susan Nunes Fadley, a member of the Berkeley Hills Preservation group which has protested the bid by Kapor and his wife Freada Kapor-Klein to build a … Continue reading »
