New Orleans comes to Berkeley: the Treme second line

If you didn’t make it to the Treme Brass Band second line parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Arhoolie Records on Saturday you really missed something. Fortunately, Berkeleyside was there to give you a hint of the wonderful music and atmosphere on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. And it is just a hint: from the start of the band’s performance in the park through the parade to the finish at Freight & Salvage on Addison Street paraders were treated to nearly an hour of great Dixieland music.

I go to Jazz Fest in New Orleans every year so it was a real treat to see the Treme Brass Band here in Berkeley! Congrats to Chris Strachwitz for the 50th anniversary of Arhoolie, and thanks for putting on all the great music this past weekend at the Freight.

It was such a great day! I’d read about the event on Berkeleyside and was so glad I went. I loved the music and had fun sketching the band too. Thanks for filming the concert and parade. I embedded it in my own blog post with sketches of the parade here: . Thanks!
