Sarber’s moves down Solano, crosses into Albany
Thanks to citizen reporter Rachel Anderson, we can now confirm that, as we reported in February, the Berkeley outpost of photography store Sarber’s (there’s another one in Montclair) is moving down Solano Avenue and, as a result, into Albany. The new store opens on April 7th.

Guess who?
Here’s a little puzzler for you. Who do you think this car belongs to?
The person in question lives in Berkeley and is in the public eye.

Such affiliations allow the academic activist to hang out with his brethren in both camps. At the same time it affords the Oxford, Cornell, and London School … Continue reading »
After 52 years, two much loved restaurateurs step down
Last night, the Telegraph Avenue community turned out in force to honor Mario and Rosalinda Tejada, owners of Mario’s La Fiesta Restaurant on Haste Street, who are stepping down after running the popular eatery for an extraordinary 52 years.
The couple’s farewell retirement party was everything you would expect from an expertly crafted Mexican fiesta — with a Mariachi band, flowing drinks, tables heaving with food, including spicy chicken, guacamole, celebratory cakes and cookies — and, of course, piňatas.
Mario Tejada said he was sad to be retiring and leaving the restaurant. “But I have seven grandchildren and I want to spend time with them,” he said. “They play baseball and I haven’t been able to watch them. Now I will.” … Continue reading »
