East Bay Mini-Maker Faire calls for makers, performers

The first edition of the East Bay Mini-Maker Faire last October took place in a torrential downpour, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of a few thousand visitors curious about the makers and crafters showing their work.

Joint campus and city police patrol resumes on southside

A joint police patrol by the University of California Police Department and the Berkeley Police Department which launched last year will resume in south Berkeley neighborhoods tonight. The initiative, which aims to improve public safety at night and suppress violent crime, coincides with the start of the new academic year on campus.

This weekend, when around 30,000 students and faculty stroll through Caltopia, browsing the booths of more than 100 exhibitors, Berkeley’s two driving forces, the city and its university, will be pitched in perfect harmony. And Berkeleyside will be there to sing along too.
