The flow of acolytes to the new Apple temple on Fourth Street is unabated, but most of them don’t pause to contemplate the dimensions of the sidewalk panels outside the store.

When audiences entered Berkeley Rep’s Roda theater on Wednesday night, they passed by a table with a shiny display: an Oscar, a Grammy, two Emmy awards, a National Medal of the Arts, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Police make arrest in tire slashing incident

Berkeley police officers arrested 33-year old Mandisa Monroe of Berkeley at about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday in connection with the tire-slashing spree on the Berkeley/Oakland border last Wednesday. She has been charged with felony vandalism.

Paul Bicknell sent us the following obituary for his grandfather, Ernest Paul Bicknell II.

Ernest Paul “Bick” Bicknell II passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2011 in his home, surrounded by love and light, with friends and family near him. He would have been 99 this month.

Bick was a cornerstone in the Berkeley Friends Meeting on Vine Street, and deeply involved in the local community, both in Berkeley and across the border in Oakland where he lived.
