Any news on why a helicopter has been hovering over downtown Berkeley most of today?

Most likely because of the student protests going on at Cal.

Another protest on campus. Plus one of the students apparently tried to grab an officer’s gun. Yikes.

The link to the Chronicle has more on the story:

    I should have known.

That is the reason why a news helicopter has been flying over downtown Berkeley all afternoon, on a really beautiful day.  Of course, it’s not a good reason to fly a helicopter over downtown Berkeley all afternoon, on a really beautiful day.  The incredible waste of fuel alone would justify shooting the helicopter down with a surface-to-air missile.  Unfortunately, I don’t have one of those.  I did file a complaint with the FAA.  I still haven’t figured out which news channel is responsible but when I do, they’ll get a piece of my mind, too.

    It’s absolutely disgusting.

I never have a problem with student protests, but the assault on an officer was simply an attention-getting tactic; the students don’t understand that the intensity of their protests should be in direct proportion to what they are protesting against or for. This particular protest didn’t warrant such behavior.
