Man shot in Berkeley home robbery, suspect at large

A man was shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a home invasion robbery in the 1600 block of Derby Street in Berkeley at 3:00 am on Saturday October 22. The suspect fled and is still at large.

The home invasion was not random, according to Lieutenant Kevin Schofield of the Berkeley Police Department. “We believe the suspect targeted these people specifically,” he said.

Bus plows into tree after mechanical failure, no injuries

On Friday October 21, at 6 pm, a tour bus drove into a tree on Hearst Avenue, destroying both the tree and the bus. Nobody apart from the driver was on the bus, and the driver sustained only minor injuries.

Traffic on Hearst was blocked for several hours during the investigation and clean up.

Trio of earthquakes gently shake Berkeley early Saturday

Three relatively small earthquakes occurred on the Hayward Fault in the early hours of Saturday October 22 — all of them centered in the Claremont neighborhood of Berkeley. This follows the series of four that rattled Berkeleyans on Thursday.

The first tremblor happened at 12.06 am and was a magnitude 2.8, according to the USGS, with a depth of five miles. The epicenter was near Tunnel Road not far from where Thursday’s quakes were centered.
