Strong winds whipped through the East Bay on Wednesday night, toppling trees and knocking power out to thousands of people. The National Weather Service is warning that the gusts — which may reach up to 70 miles per hour — will continue through Friday. The wind will not only whip through the hills, but will blow up to 45 miles per hour in the flats.

A friend and I drove into Tilden for a walk.  When we tried to drive out the same way 90 minutes later, there was a large pine tree across the road.  Bystanders said it had come down in the last half hour.
