The article about the Magnes says: “The restored Art Deco building will be joined by another Art Deco gem
when the University Of California Art Building opens downtown in a few
    years.”

Does anyone seriously believe that the proposed UC Art museum is Art Deco?

I would call it Art Dreck-o.  I think Judah Magnes would have gotten that joke, though I am not sure if he would have liked it.
