While the reopening of the north branch of the Berkeley Public Library is still three to four months away, its new contours are apparent. Construction crews have completed the building and painting of two-story addition to the building, which will house a new multipurpose room, a teen reading area, and a staff room.

Those three or four months can’t pass quickly enough!  We’ve enjoyed watching the building process, are delighted that “The Enchanted Forest” remains and look forward to seeing all the renovations on the inside.

Some Berkeleyside readers might not know that Measure FF only funds the branch renovations; by law those monies can not be spent on any furniture, shelving, fixtures, computers, check-out machines, etc.  All of those costs are being funded by the Neighborhood Libraries Campaign’s 3.5 million Capital Campaign that supports all four branches.  I hope Berkeleyside readers will join with other Berkeley residents and support the campaign.  Donations can be made online at http://www.bplf.org to support one of the vital community resources we have.
