Update, 09.11.12: The fire at 3107 Sacramento Street was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials, according to the fire department, and as reported in the Oakland Tribune. Twenty-year old Seaquins Young, her two-year-old child and mother escaped the apartment before it was completely destroyed by the blaze.

Original story: A fire broke out on Monday afternoon in a two-unit residence at 3107 Sacramento Street. There were no reports of injuries, but six engines were on the scene and the blaze caused a plume of smoke to rise over the city.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Gil Dong, the two-alarm fire was still being fought at around 3:20 pm on Monday at the apartment building, which has commercial space underneath it. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The building is sandwiched between gospel music store Reid’s Records and the building which formerly housed Recycle Bicycle.
