Where in Berkeley?

Know where this is? Take a guess and let us know in the Comments.

Update, 10:28am: Congratulations to Alan Saldich who identified this as part of a sundial which you can find on the Upper Jordan Fire Trail where it meets Panoramic Way on Panoramic Hill.  The photo shows the lower half of the sundial which memorializes Betty and Dick Irwin. Here’s the full picture:

Alan: you’re right — if you mean the Upper Jordan Fire Trail where it meets Panoramic Way on Panoramic Hill.  The photo shows the lower half of the sundial which memorializes Betty and Dick Irwin. Congratulations on being this week’s winner! Here’s a photo of the whole sundial.

Yes… but I didn’t know it was the Upper Jordan Fire Trail… I just remember it as torture running up it in college. Now we hike up the canyon and come down the connector where we pass that sundial, very cool. And by the way, seems like there are far fewer bags of dog **** these days left along the fire trail! Maybe the Berkeleyside feature made a difference?

Unfortunately there is a regular depositor of said bags on my street now… maybe they followed me down the trail on one of my hikes…

In case you’re wondering, Alan is referring to this story about dog poop deposits on Berkeley fire trails (which, needless to say, had lots of people talking): http://www.berkeleyside.com/2011/07/21/on-berkeley-trails-after-poop-scoop-why-not-poop-pick-up/

I would love to know where this is.  I think the trail meets Panoramic in a couple of spots.  If it’s not too much trouble can you please post the GPS coordinates?  Thank you!

Panoramic Hill can be a bit confusing.  If you have a Berkeley Path Wanderers map, you can see how how the connectors from both the Upper and Lower Jordan Trails converge, forming kind of a heart shape.  The sundial is at the point, just before the pavement begins. (section P15 on the map).  You also can get to this spot by walking up Panoramic Way from Memorial Stadium.  You’ll see some historic architecture and find some great paths along the way. Good luck.

Another way to get there is to go to 365 Panoramic Way where the middle trail begins…

Thank you, both.  I will check out my BPWA map :)

Just in case you also have your gps device, I did manage to get you the coordinates of the sun dial, thanks to the intrepid Berkeley Path Wanderer Mary Lynch:

That’s so sweet.  Thank you, Sandy and Mary!  I’m going hiking tomorrow :)
