Contest: Name that nosh [12.13.12]

Name that Nosh, Dec. 12, 2012. Photo: Emilie Raguso

Think you know food in the East Bay? Prove it by naming the restaurant and dish in the comments section below to win our latest contest.

Update, Dec. 18, 2:34 p.m.: You’ve all guessed valiantly, but no one has landed it exactly. The answer is peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream at Meal Ticket in Berkeley. Congratulations to reader ‘cornbeefhash,’ who guessed Meal Ticket, but not the dish. (The grape and apple pie, guessed by cornbeefhash, was on the menu at the same time, though.) Hope you’ll look forward to our next contest. As a side note, this dessert was a bit pricey ($6.95, if memory serves), but it was a big portion and distinctively delicious. Cash or check only.

Share your photos for consideration for use in Name that Nosh by emailing nosh@berkeleyside.com. Include restaurant name, dish name and photo credit.

    Angeline’s bread pudding?

  • Moriah

I think I really know where this is! I just can’t decide whether that’s ice cream or whipped cream…

  • emraguso

This is definitely a mysterious one… so far, no one has nailed it. Hope to see more guesses.

Berkeley? Easy! That’s a spelt, quinoa, vegan, soy, yummy, Non Gmo, wheat free dessert!

Fat Apple’s olallieberry pie a la mode?

  • serkes

I recall that Cafe Fanny had a copper counter top … so perhaps the Chez Panisse cafe above the restaurant?

  • Moriah

My guess is Crixa apple pie. And I hope that’s vanilla ice cream and not whipped cream. (Leave it to me to have strong feeling about this: I say vanilla ice cream belongs on warm apple pie, whereas whipped cream belongs on pumpkin pie.) But I admit it: I’d never let such a luscious-looking plate go uneaten, even if that were whipped cream. In fact, I’m tempted to head to Crixa for a dish of pie right now!
[Sorry for the babble, but dessert *is* my favorite topic…]

I was going to guess wood tavern, but after the last hint it definitely looks like it could be the decadence of t-rex.

Does anyone else remember hot apple pie with cinnamon sauce and vanilla ice cream at Kip’s on Durant?

  • berkeleyfarm

I obviously have been slacking, as I live pretty close to SPA. I want some now too.
I’ll say Sea Salt as a WAG.

  • serkes

I keep on thinking of that copper counter top – and can’t recall if Suzanne removed them in the remodel … so will semi-WAG Bartavelle Coffee & Wine Bar (nee Cafe Fanny) …

Though I reference Cafe Fanny, I didn’t guess it.

    So … Bartavelle.

  • Guesswhat?

Bartavelle doesn’t even have apple pie. Or anything even remotedly appealing on the menu.
