Webb Gustafson, adventurer, enthusiast, man about town

Webb Gustafson at Stinson: Gustafson grew up in Berkeley and was known around town for his frequent power-chair trips down College Avenue

Webb Gustafson — surfer, cyclist, skier, adventurer, comedian, public transit enthusiast and man about town — passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 30, 2012.

Born in Kodiak, Alaska on June 2, 1989, Webb grew up in Berkeley and was known around town for his frequent power-chair trips down College Avenue and rides on BART and AC Transit. Webb graduated from Berkeley High and enjoyed taking French and bodybuilding classes at Laney College.

Throughout his life, Webb shared his passions for foreign language, cheeses, pipes and the world of music with everyone he encountered. Webb worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska, was a volunteer at the Goodwill of Alameda, and dreamed of someday becoming a BART train operator.

An avid traveler, Webb visited Europe and Wisconsin, and had the opportunity to see his favorite show, Dancing with the Stars, in Los Angeles.

Webb is survived by his family, friends, and the many others who knew and loved him.

A memorial service for Webb will be held at the Finnish Hall of Berkeley on Sunday, January 13 at 3 p.m., followed by a gathering to share stories, memories, and some of Webb’s favorite foods. More information about memorial contributions and Webb’s life can be found at the In memory of Webb Gustafson site.
