Berkeleyside Police Blotter: Crime in Berkeley, Jan. 12-18
This is a partial list of recent crimes in Berkeley based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department, unless otherwise noted. See past crime blotters here. (Note to readers: We’re trying out a new format, and will be experimenting in the coming weeks to provide more information about crime in Berkeley, so please provide feedback in the comments section if you notice anything new or have ideas for more coverage.)

The following items represent just a sampling of calls, and times appear to be approximate. From Jan. 12-18, there were 10 burglary reports, 23 auto break-in or theft from a vehicle reports, and six stolen vehicle reports to the Berkeley Police Department, according to CrimeMapping.com. Eight robberies and 10 assaults were reported.

Mountain lion tracks seen in Claremont Canyon Preserve
Mountain lion tracks have been sighted in the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve, according to Tom Stienstra, writing in the San Francisco Chronicle.
In his regular outdoors column published on Sunday Jan. 19, Stienstra noted two readers had reported being shocked at seeing the distinctive tracks.
