The USPS plans to sell Berkeley’s main post office. Photo: DH Parks
On Tuesday night, the City Council’s subcommittee on the main post office met and heard public comment on the proposed sale of the historic building. Berkeleyside was there, live tweeting. Read our Storify on the meeting:
Berkeley Council: Preserve Post Office for Posterity! Posterity: What’s a Post Office?
Opportunity Knocks, Berkeley Covers Its Ears and Screams (This one actually could be used for just about anything.)

If the city wants to dictate what’s done with the post office, they should buy it. Until they do, this is just a bunch of hot air.

So how do you find the Storify on the meeting?
Berkeley Resident
Google Storify. In the horizontal big blue bar at the top of the page that comes up, enter Berkeleyside. The post office story will be there.

Forget the post office, Berkeley should bail out the entire Postal Service.

Sorry, but you can’t blame the PO for the idiots in Congress who won;t allow them to run the place like a business and want them to run it like a business. In any event, I think it’s better for the city to have a tax producing building than the large very lovely historic PO that can be replaced by a smaller leased facility.

We had a technical glitch so the Storify wasn’t showing on Berkeleyside for a few minutes. That was corrected. You should see it on our site now.

Elizabeth Olson’s tweet is right on. The employees there are clueless, and rude. I never use the main post office if I can help it.
