Does anyone know what the deal was Saturday evening (03/30) on University Avenue with cops in riot gear with weapons at the ready? Never saw anything in local news about it.

  • emraguso

    I’ll check with police.

  • emraguso

If you have any more information — time or more precise location — that would be great!

  • 4eenie

I’m also wondering what happened on Friday at 5:45 PM. I counted thirteen Berkeley police vehicles flying South on MLK past Dwight. Lights on, sirens blazing. Any ideas what that was all about? Thx.

  • tansparency please

That was dramatic, viewed from berkeley bowl east. I could hear sirens in all directions.

Guess that didn’t rate sharing, using whatever criteria BPD uses for this silly list.

  • 4eenie

The list here goes only through the 27th, so I’m guessing it’ll be in next week’s blotter.

  • emraguso

This list is compiled by us — not BPD — based on the limited info that’s posted on crimemapping.com. If we get tips from readers or otherwise hear about responses, we ask for more info from police. But, as noted, it wouldn’t have been on this post, which only goes through the 27th. We can ask police about the incident you mentioned though.

This is what we were told but it’s not totally clear from your description when/where … “On March 30, 2013 at approx. 8:35 p.m. BPD received a report of a possible subject with a gun walking in the area of the 900 block of University Avenue. BPD officers quickly responded to the area and sent a four person team into the area to search for the suspect. Officers were unable to locate the suspect and did an additional area check of the surrounding area.”
