Police arrested four Berkeley men, including three probationers, after receiving a report early Sunday morning that several people were trying to break into cars in a parking structure downtown.
According to officer Jennifer Coats, Berkeley Police spokeswoman, police responded to the 2000 block of Kittredge Street on Sunday just before 12:50 a.m. for the auto burglary report.
“Officers were informed the suspects were attempting to get into vehicles in the parking structure of an apartment building,” said Coats, via email. “Officers arrived on scene and detained four subjects who matched the description reported by the caller.”
Police arrested the four men on suspicion of attempted auto burglary and other violations.
Arrested were 32-year-old Joel Ryles, 21-year-old Adrian Guevara and 22-year-old Amos Eaglebear in connection with attempted auto burglary and probation violation.
All three were set for a hearing to revoke their probation on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Alameda County sheriff’s department.
Police also arrested 32-year-old Abiye Gebre on suspicion of attempted auto burglary and possession of marijuana. Gebre is being held at Santa Rita Jail with a bail of $5,000, according to the sheriff’s department. He was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday afternoon.
