A machinery fire in West Berkeley was quickly contained and extinguished by the Berkeley Fire Department on Monday morning.
The incident, which was first reported around 11:15 a.m., happened on the corner of Anthony and Fifth streets, according to BFD Acting Deputy Fire Chief Abe Roman.
Roman said an old paint booth caught fire and that the blaze caused a fair amount of smoke. There was no damage to any nearby buildings, and the fire was rapidly contained, he said.
Several Berkeleyside readers were in touch when they noticed the smoke over West Berkeley.
“A huge plume of black smoke just rose up & the calvary of fire trucks is arriving,” one tipster posted on Twitter.
Another saw the smoke and assumed the fire was in a building within nearby Aquatic Park.
