Update, 11 p.m. Readers in Berkeley began reporting that the power was back on at about 10:35 p.m. As of 11 p.m., the outage was no longer listed on the PG&E outage map. No further details were available.

Update, 9:56 p.m. As per the police scanner, there’s a traffic light out at Sacramento and Dwight, and PG&E is en route to assess the situation. The outage map lists three outages affecting 1,109 customers.

Update, 9:53 p.m. PG&E is now listing a second, smaller, outage just north of the orange zone in the map above that’s affecting 47 customers, bringing the total affected customers to nearly 1,110.

Original post, 9:41 p.m. PG&E is reporting a power outage in Berkeley affecting 1,061 customers.


According to the outage map, reports began coming in at 9:23 p.m. The estimated time for restoration is midnight. The cause is listed as “Unknown,” and PG&E will be assessing it.

An area from San Pablo Avenue east to Martin Luther King Jr. Way was reportedly impacted from about Ward Street up to Bancroft Way, according to preliminary information from the PG&E outage map.

Wrote one reader: “Interestingly, south side of Carleton appears fine. I’m on north side :/”
