Brass Menazeri Balkan brass bands LAST SHOW EVER
After twelve years at the forefront of the fervent American Balkan music movement, Oakland’s veteran ten-piece Balkan brass powerhouse Brass Menazeri will disband in February. Brass Menazeri will bid farewell to our hometown, in one final show at Oakland’s New Parish on Friday, February 1.
Brass Menazeri will bring two full sets of rapturous Balkan dance party, bridging rich traditional music with bandleader Peter Jaques’ innovative originals. This is music borne aloft on exquisite four- part horn melodies and Briget Boyle’s soaring vocals, driven by the thump and rollick of the Bay’s finest Balkan percussion / sousaphone / baritone rhythm section. Special guest dancer Zoe Jakes of Beats Antique will grace the stage with her world famous fusion bellydance. Brass Menazeri trumpeter eO will debut his new dj set of glitch seasoned, bass heavy Balko-electronic compositions and remixes. Furthermore, a cavalcade of special guest musicians will keep everyone guessing what’s coming next.
This is your last chance ever to hear the Bay’s Best International Band (SF Bay Guardian Reader’s Choice), the engine behind twelve years of the Bay’s hottest Balkan dance parties.
