Arnieville protesters arrested in Sacramento
Details are sketchy, but police in Sacramento have started to arrest members of Arnieville, the group of disabled activists who set up a camp on a median along Adeline Street this summer.
The group went up to the Capitol today to protest against proposed budget cuts to programs that send assistants into the homes of the disabled. Without the assistance, disabled people will no longer be able to live independently and will have to go into nursing homes at … Continue reading »

Arnieville disability protest to be dismantled
A month after they set up a tent encampment on a median on Adeline, the Arnieville protestors are closing up camp – but they are not abandoning their cause.
While there will no longer be a cluster of tents along one of Berkeley’s busiest streets, those protesting proposed state budget cuts to in-house aides will take their fight to Sacramento’s streets and halls of government, according to Jean Stewart, one of Arnieville’s organizers.

If you walk or drive down Adeline Street in south Berkeley right now, you will see dozens of disabled people camping out on the median strip in the middle of the street. “We call this place Arnieville,” I was told. That, however, is not breaking news. This story has already been covered on TV.
