The city of Berkeley unveiled a new bike lane Thursday near the intersection where a woman on her bike was dragged and nearly killed during a crash in February. Last week, the motorist in that collision was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and causing great bodily injury. According to the police report, acquired by Berkeleyside through a Public Records Act request, Haynes had bought medical marijuana from a cannabis dispensary shortly before the crash. Cycling advocates are pleading with the city to extend a southbound bike lane on Fulton Street, near the Cal campus, following the crash last week that nearly killed a Berkeley mother and doctor.

Berkeley Design Advocates has suggested many good ideas for revitalizing the Telegraph Ave. shopping district, and I think the most important is their proposal to make Bancroft and Durant two-way, which would allow us to widen sidewalks in key locations.
