A power outage affecting nearly 2,000 in North Berkeley could take at least three hours to resolve.
Residents in Berkeley have begun reporting a power outage that began at about 6 p.m.
PG&E reported power out for nearly 3,400 customers earlier Friday evening, according to its unofficial outage map. The outage closed downtown Berkeley's arts district.
A power outage that started around 7:30 p.m. and affected a large swath of Berkeley appears to be over, says PG&E.
Thousands of people have lost power in Berkeley on Thursday night, according to preliminary information from PG&E.
More than 5,000 customers in South Berkeley and North Oakland were affected by a power outage on Saturday night.
The cause of the outage was a tree making contact with a power line in El Cerrito, said PG&E.
Update 4:28 p.m. Despite what PG&E has told Berkeleyside, readers are saying their power is still out. According to the outage map, there are 18 outages still reported in Berkeley that are impacting 8,160 customers.
Update, 11 p.m. Readers in Berkeley began reporting that the power was back on at about 10:35 p.m. As of 11 p.m., the outage was no longer listed on the PG&E outage map. No further details were available.
According to PG&E, since Jan.1 there have been eight outages affecting 2,500 customers or more; and three outages affecting 5,000 customers or more.
Update, 9:50 p.m. PG&E spokeswoman Jacqueline Ratto said power to all customers had been restored by about 9:45 p.m. She had no further information on cause but said “an extensive investigation” would be done to find out what led to the outage.
Update, May 16: PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian told us the cause of the Friday/Saturday power outage was a vehicle that crashed into a PG&E pole in the 2500 block of Mabel, at Parker. All customers had their power restored by 2:37 a.m. Saturday.
Update, 1:30pm: PG&E said that, as of 1 p.m., power to all customers impacted by the outages had been restored. They are continuing to look into the equipment failure that caused it, according to a spokeswoman.
