Update, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m. The cyclist, a 25-year-old Berkeley man, remains in the ICU, authorities report. (Berkeley Police originally erroneously told Berkeleyside the cyclist was a woman.)

Update, Feb. 5, 9 a.m. Read Berkeleyside’s update on Meg Schwarzman, the cyclist who was struck. The Berkeley physician and mother is expected to survive, though the road to recovery looks to be long.
Update, Feb. 3, 11 a.m. BPD says there have been no updates to report as far as the cyclist’s condition.
Update, 10:15 p.m. Berkeley police have arrested the driver involved in the crash, 47-year-old Berwick Haynes of Sunnyvale, on suspicion of driving under the influence. In a statement released just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, BPD said it was continuing to investigate the injury collision. The bicyclist, a 42-year-old Berkeley woman, is in critical condition at a local hospital. At 10 p.m. police were still at the scene of the accident taking measurements, and the intersection remained closed.
Update, 6:28 p.m. Police have asked motorists to avoid Fulton and Bancroft due to the earlier crash. Southbound Fulton between Bancroft and Kittredge Street is closed. … Continue reading »
Update, Aug. 12: Authorities have ruled that the accident was due to a right-of-way violation caused by the cyclist. Said Officer Jennifer Coats, Berkeley Police spokeswoman, the boy rode his bicycle off the sidewalk and into traffic in the roadway, where he was struck immediately by an oncoming vehicle.
Update, June 25: According to the Berkeley Police Department, the young cyclist has been released from hospital and is home recovering.
Update, June 17: Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said the boy remains in the hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Update, July 17: The pedestrian killed was identified by the Alameda County coroner’s office as John Patrick Miller, 46. No residence was provided. He died of “extensive blunt trauma.”
Update, 11:01 am: As of 10:44 a.m. the Berkeley Police Department’s fatal accident investigation team has cleared the scene of the fatal collision on University Avenue. The roadway is now open in both directions. The investigation continues. No information has been released on the victim and there is no possible suspect information.

A Berkeley man is in critical condition after being struck by a car while walking on University Avenue just west of San Pablo Avenue on Tuesday night, authorities said.
“We received multiple 911 calls at approximately 8:23 p.m.,” said Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats, via email at about 11:20 p.m. The man was taken by the Berkeley Fire Department to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. … Continue reading »
Update, Dec. 13, 1:21 p.m.: Bay City News is reporting that the motorcyclist who was killed in the collision Wednesday has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 32-year-old Berkeley resident Stephan Jarjisian.
Update, 9:42 p.m. According to a Berkeley Police Department notification sent at 9:31 p.m., authorities do not plan to release the identity of the deceased motorcyclist prior to Thursday morning.
In the email notice, police shared some additional information about Wednesday afternoon’s accident in North Berkeley. According to the notice, from spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats, several people gave aid to the motorcyclist prior to the arrival of emergency crews. Police began to administer CPR when they arrived. The Berkeley Fire Department then transported the motorcyclist to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. … Continue reading »
