Bites: Cholita Linda, Curbside Creamery on the way

CURBSIDE CREAMERY We told you about Curbside Creamery back in July. Owner Tori Wentworth, a Cal alumna, is still planning on opening up her ice cream shop in Oakland’s fashionable Temescal Alley. While she waits for the build-out and permitting to happen, she can be found in the alley with her cart on Saturdays, 1-5pm, serving treats such as Earl Grey ice cream (pictured above). Curbside focuses on cashew-based vegan ice creams, though regular dairy flavors are also available. Think bourbon whiskey and vanilla, or mint stracciatella. Wentworth has also been popping up at the Grand Lake farmer’s market, and hopes to make that a regular gig. Follow Curbside Creamery on Facebook to keep udpated on the cart’s whereabouts and progress on the brick-and-mortar spot which, when it opens, will be when the shop opens will be at 482 49th St. … Continue reading »

While the debate over the future viability of the pop-up model rumbles on in the food media, Maricela Yee, founder and owner of Little Shop Artisan Box, is not letting that stop her from entering the foray with her first-ever pop-up dinner.

Little Shop Artisan Box offers monthly gourmet foodie boxes that showcase Bay Area artisans, and the dinner was held on Friday Jan. 25 at the recently opened Sound Room in downtown Oakland. Each of Maricela’s pop-ups has a different theme and uses tasty local treats that Maricela sells in her Little Shop Artisan Box to make a five-course meal that highlights one product with each course. Talented Chef Peter Jackson runs the kitchen.

Chef Jackson is no an old hand at the underground food scene as he hosts many dinners with his  Canvas Underground dining group. The concept is similar to another local pop-up called Behind the Cart, where each course highlights a local food vendor and his cooking expertise. … Continue reading »
