Saturday was Small Business Saturday. To get the word out, Looking Glass Photo & Camera held their second annual ‘Local on the Hunt’ photography scavenger tour . Berkeleyside contributing photographer Pete Rosos set out to participate with his daughter Coco and son Teo in tow. Here are the results (read the captions to see what challenge led to the creation of the image.) All are visual reminders that our local merchants are wonderful places to visit year-round, not just in the gift-buying season. … Continue reading »

LOOKING GLASS PHOTO The venerable Berkeley camera store is having a grand opening celebration Oct. 19-20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to celebrate its new location at 1045 Ashby Ave. in the old Heinz family complex. The store had been at 2848 Telegraph Ave. for 30 years, but had grown so popular that, on some days, there was a line outside the 4,000-square-foot space, said Jen Waicukauski, who owns Looking Glass Photo with her father. Reps from Canon, Nikon, Sony and elsewhere will be on hand, too. … Continue reading »

When the restaurant reopens it will feature the same menu with changing daily specials, but the space will be updated and ADA compliant. The Sacramento Street location was the first Breads of India location – it opened in 1997 – and it’s been tough having it closed,  said Singh. There are two other branches, one in Oakland and one in Walnut Creek. … Continue reading »

‘We’re going on a Berkeley business scavenger hunt’

By Pete Rosos

You may know Pete Rosos as 2812 Photography; you will almost certainly have seen many of his photographs on Berkeleyside, including his wonderful Snapshot series, in which he takes the pulse of some of the most interesting, not necessarily high-profile, people of Berkeley, accompanied by gorgeous photographic portraits. Last weekend, Rosos embarked on an interesting Berkeley scavenger hunt orchestrated by Looking Glass Photo. He picks up the story:

It didn’t come as much surprise to me when my daughter of 10 started jumping for joy after I asked her whether or not she’d like to join me on a little scavenger hunt. What did raise my eyebrows was her reaction when I told her that it was a photo scavenger hunt. She has never really expressed much of an interest in photography before but, after explaining the details of the hunt, she was bounding across the house to ask her mother if she could borrow her digital camera. I had found out just a couple of days before that Looking Glass Photo was putting together the hunt to help drum up attention for Small Business Saturday. … Continue reading »
