Daily Californian reporter arrested at protests

The Daily Californian is reporting that one of its reporters was arrested Thursday while covering the March 4 protests against cuts to public education.

Cameron Burns, 18, who produces content for the newspaper’s website, is still in jail, according to the paper.

Hundreds rally in support of Berkeley public schools

Hundreds of teachers, secretaries, instructional aides, parents and students gathered along a stretch of Martin Luther King this afternoon to protest funding cuts for public education.

The protestors lined the sidewalk in front of the Berkeley Unified School District building and held up signs saying “Save Our Schools,” “Support Public Education,” and “Honk for Teachers.” Many of the cars driving by blared their horns in support.

Video: Watch the dance party turn violent

As the nationwide March 4th protests against cuts to public education grow near, groups around the state are trying to get the word out. In Berkeley, UC students plan to hold a rally at noon and teachers in the Berkeley Unified School district plan to march on Martin Luther King Street after school lets out.
