The 37th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, presented by the Jewish Film Institute, presents 65 films, parties, events and special performances, from July 20 to Aug. 6.
Berkeley filmmaker Abby Ginzberg first met Albie Sachs in San Francisco in the 1970s, when the white South African anti-apartheid attorney visited San Francisco. At the time, Ginzberg was a law student at Hastings and a member of the Lawyer’s Guild, which was charged with hosting Sachs, who was there to meet with other activists. A few decades later, Ginzberg is showing Sachs around the Bay Area once again, but this time he’s on screen, as the central figure in her new film “Soft Vengeance: Albie Sachs and the New South Africa.” (more…)
COLLECTOR ART SHOP ARTIST RECEPTION The Collector Art Shop on College Avenue is hosting an artists’ reception and gallery show Friday night. Work by local artists Lois Cantor, Jana Bouc, Susan Erickson, Darril Tighe, and Christina Song will be on display, and their creators will answer questions and discuss their collections. Light refreshments and live music will be on the scene as well. The event takes place Friday, Aug. 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Collector Art Shop, 2950 College Ave. (more…)
