The proposal from Berkeley City’s Peace & Justice Commission to honor Pfc. Bradley Manning for his purported role in the WikiLeaks saga has unleashed a predictable storm of criticism for Berkeley nationally. In Berkeley, there are certainly supporters as well as opponents of the resolution, which will come before the City Council next Tuesday.
What is coming across in the comments to our story on the resolution, however, is puzzlement about the role of the Peace & Justice Commission itself. So Berkeleyside wants to ask its readers what they think. We’ll keep the poll running until next Wednesday. It’s an unscientific poll, of course, but it’s one way to get a gauge of what Berkeleyans think.
Update We closed the polling on this issue on Tuesday, December 14.
