Berkeley Police Chief Michael Meehan plans to tell the city council tonight that, after a five year delay, the department is working quickly to address problems in its evidence room.
Berkeley Unified School District received $25 million in federal Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) tax credits, State Superintendent for Instruction Tom Torlakson announced on Friday. The $25 million will help support Berkeley High’s new stadium and new classrooms, and construction at the West Campus.
A two-alarm fire at 2606 Milvia Street drew a quick response from the Berkeley Fire Department and was rapidly contained. The fire department was notified of the fire at 9:45 a.m. today. The first engine arrived at 9:52 a.m. and by 10:30 a.m. the fire was contained but still smoldering. According to Assistant Chief Sabina Imrie, everyone was safely evacuated from the house and there were no reported injuries.
