Four films selected for Center St outdoor movie series

"Up" from Disney/Pixar, one of the four films to be shown at Berkeley's summer outdoor movie series on Center Street

The votes are in and four films have been chosen for the inaugural Center Street Summer Cinema series which kicks off on Saturday August 6.

The movies will be Princess Bride on August 6, Up on August 13, Raiders of The Lost Ark on August 20, and The Big Lebowski on August 27.

The selection was made according to votes submitted by Berkeleyside readers and other Berkeleyans in a survey orchestrated by the Downtown Berkeley Association, the lead organizer of the event.

The movies will be projected onto the west wall of the old UC Printing Plant Building, future site of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and the Bank of America parking lot will serve as the seating area for movie-goers (chairs will be available to hire for $5.00 a pop).

The screenings will preceded by food, drink, and entertainment on Center Street which will be closed for the events. Berkeleyside is proud to be the lead media sponsor of this exciting new addition to the Berkeley summer calendar.

Restaurants involved in the outdoor movie nights — some of whom will prepare special dishes for the events — include Oasis Grill (Mediterranean), Le Regal (Vietnamese), Sportivo (Italian), Ippuku (Japanese Yakitori), Ben & Jerry’s, Alborz (Persian), Five, Café Rio (deli/convenience), CU Sushi, Top Dog, La Cascada (Mexican), and Starbucks, all of which are on Center Street. Ironwood BBQ, Cinnaholic, Punjabi By Nature and Sunny Side Café, which are all around the corner on Oxford Street, will also be participating, as will Jupiter on Shattuck.

The “Center Street Summer Cinema” series takes place on Saturdays 6, 13, 20 and 27 August at 2219 Center Street starting at 6:30pm. The event is easily accessible by BART, AC Transit, or bicycle.
