NEW COFFEE PLACE A new gathering spot is on its way to downtown Berkeley, as Eric Lindgren plans to open Lindgren’s Coffee and Café in the landmarked building 2120 Dwight Way. The space, which is close to Shattuck Avenue, is being remodeled, as is the entire building, which is currently hiding behind scaffolding. The architect on the project, Alexandra Odabachian, says there will be seating in a patio garden at the back, and that Lindgren plans to roast his own coffee and serve a variety of fresh-baked goods. Lindgren was unavailable at press time, but we’ll bring you more details when we have them. There will be Landmarks Commission hearing on Sept. 6 regarding the café’s signage. View the plans on the city’s website.

SHORT SHUTTERING Divino, the Italian restaurant at 1404 University Avenue, has closed temporarily. Its answering service says it will reopen Oct 1. No details as yet, but we’ll keep you posted. Divino, you may recall, opened in February after taking over from Fellini’s. Owner Marco Polo Garbarino’s vision was to serve cuisine based on the Italian foods he remembered from a childhood spent partly in Liguria. The restaurant was described by Nicholas Boer in the Chronicle as “a good neighborhood restaurant on its way up.” Divino is at 1404 University at Acton. Tel: 510-841 5200.
