Police arrested one man, suspected of being involved in a June 11 double shooting in Berkeley, after serving four search warrants on Thursday morning. Another man is still being sought as a suspect in the same case and should be considered armed and dangerous, they said.

Thursday morning, members of the Berkeley Police Department Special Response Team and Investigations Bureau served three search warrants in Berkeley and one in Oakland related to the June 11 shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of Russell Street.

Investigations into the shootings by Berkeley Police, working alongside Oakland Police and the Alameda County sheriff’s department, implicated Donzale Mejia, a 22-year-old Oakland resident, and Anthony Durant, a 23-year-old Berkeley resident, as suspects, authorities said. Mejia was arrested Thursday morning in Oakland during the execution of a search warrant. The Berkeley Police Department is seeking the community’s help in apprehending Durant.

The June 11 shooting was reported to police just after 4:30 p.m., when residents said they heard up to a dozen gunshots near Russell and California streets. When officers arrived on scene they located two gunshot victims, both males, aged 18 and 21. Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two of Thursday’s raids in Berkeley were conducted in the 1600 block of Blake Street and on Julia Street, according to witnesses.

Berkeley Police arrested and subsequently released 21-year-old Charles Wood shortly after the June 11 shooting. He is not believed to have been charged.

Anthony Durant is currently wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Police ask anyone with information regarding Durant’s whereabouts to call the Berkeley Police Homicide Detail at 510-981-5741 or 510-981-5900. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can reach Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
